House Val d'Isere - Val d'Isere

€299,950 - £255,251**

Rarely does a property with such character and provenance come to market. Nestled in one of the most sought-after hamlets of the commune of Sainte-Foy-Tarentaise, this enchanting detached chalet offers a truly unique Alpine retreat just 2–3 km from the Sainte-Foy ski resort.

Property voted one of the most romantic places to stay in Europe by the Guardian Newspaper.

When you set eyes on this property for the first time you could easily believe that you've walked onto a movie set! What this property doesn't have in size, it makes up for in charm!

This remarkable chalet gained international recognition after being named by The Guardian as one of the most romantic places to stay in Europe. Bursting with character and individuality, it evokes the atmosphere of a storybook mountain hideaway, making it unlike almost anything else available in the Tarentaise Valley.

The chalet offers approximately 22 m² of habitable space split over two floors, thoughtfully arranged to maximise comfort and character.

The entrance level comprises a welcoming kitchen and dining area, together with a bathroom featuring both a bath and separate shower.

Upstairs, a cosy sitting room centred around a traditional wood-burning stove creates the perfect space to relax after a day in the mountains.

The chalet also contains two mezzanine areas (one leading off of the ground floor & a second above the lounge) This gives an additional 14.8 m² of floor space which is currently being used to comfortably sleep four people.

Outside, the chalet benefits from its own private terrace, an idyllic spot to enjoy the spectacular panoramic mountain views and the peaceful surroundings.

The hamlet is renowned for its traditional architecture, peaceful setting and exceptional sunshine, with its south-west-facing position offering breathtaking mountain views throughout the year.

During the winter season, the free ski shuttle stops at the entrance to the village, providing convenient access to the slopes while allowing you to enjoy the tranquillity and authenticity of village life.

Whether as a romantic mountain escape, an unusual holiday home or a distinctive rental investment, this is an exceptionally rare opportunity to own one of the Tarentaise Valley’s most memorable and characterful properties.

The resort of Sainte Foy Tarentaise is popular with both families and off-piste lovers.

The resorts of Tignes, Val d'Isere, and La Rosiere are approx 30mins drive away and Villaroger only 10 to 15mins drive.

In the summer months it is possible to drive from the chalet to the top of the Col du Petit Saint Bernard and over the border into Italy in approx 4o mins.

About Ski area of this property

Ski Area: Sainte-Foy-Tarentaise

Ste Foy Tarentaise offers something increasingly rare in the Alps — a sense of tranquillity and authenticity. It’s a resort where you can ski fresh powder days after a snowfall, enjoy panoramic views of Mont Pourri and the Aiguille Rouge, and feel genuinely connected to the mountain environment. For many, Sainte-Foy is not just a place to ski — it’s a place to slow down, reconnect with nature, and experience winter in its purest form. The village retains a traditional alpine charm feeling more like a community than a tourist complex, with cosy restaurants, wood-fired chalets, and friendly locals. Après-ski is relaxed — think vin chaud by the fire, fondue or raclette dinners, and small bars rather than nightclubs. There are also luxury chalets and boutique lodges, many with spa facilities and stunning mountain views, making it a favourite among those who prefer understated elegance over glitz. Known as a hidden gem for off-piste and powder skiing, the resort has about 1,000 hectares of skiable terrain, but its charm lies in the freeride zones and tree skiing that expert skiers love. Routes like the North Face of Fogliettaz or the descent to the village of Le Monal offer incredible backcountry experiences. For beginners and families, the groomed runs are wide, uncrowded, and sunny — ideal for learning in a peaceful environment. The multiple ski schools and small lift queues make it especially family-friendly. It’s not only about skiing, other winter activities to enjoy include snowshoeing through the forests or to the historic hamlet of Le Monal; Ski touring for more adventurous mountain lovers; Heliskiing, with drops over the border into Italy; dog-sledding, ice climbing, and guided nature walks to explore the untouched wilderness. In summer, Sainte-Foy Tarentaise sheds its snowy coat and transforms into a tranquil alpine haven — a place where wildflowers replace powder fields and the rhythm of the mountains slows. Ste Foy’s summer charm lies in its authentic mountain life. Local farms produce Beaufort cheese, and small markets sell honey, jam, and charcuterie from the region. For the adventurous, the surrounding area offers paragliding, white-water rafting on the Isère, climbing, and canyoning. Naturally, it’s a gateway to some of the most beautiful hiking routes in the Tarentaise. From gentle walks to challenging climbs, there’s a trail for every ability. If cycling is more your thing, there are numerous, famous cols to wind your way up or mountain biking routes including lifts open to whisk you up high. Throughout summer, the village hosts fêtes and local events — simple, joyful gatherings celebrating alpine traditions, music, and cuisine. The Eurostar offers a regular service to Bourg Saint Maurice which lies at the foot of Sainte Foy Tarentaise, from here a taxi transfer can be arranged. Local airports are Lyon (135kms), Geneva (130kms). Chambery (75kms) and Grenoble (115kms).

Tignes boasts a modern funicular which will take you to the Grande Motte glacier (3030metres) which offers summer and winter skiing.   Val d’Isere has strict building regulations with an emphasis on wood and stone….. giving an air of exclusivity, it’s a pedestrian friendly resort, made up of several hamlets, each linked by a transport service. Designer boutiques are aplenty, as is the lively ambience. As well as skiing and snowboarding, swimming, ice skating, ice climbing even driving on ice are just a few of the other activities offered in the resort. The après ski choices are impressive whether you want a cosy or contemporary dining or bar experience all tastes are catered for.Val d’Isere night life is second to none; there is no excuse not to enjoy yourself! Attracting an international clientele and hosting regular world cup events.   There is no doubt that Val d’Isere is more than the average Savoie ski resort.
