House Somport - Somport

€349,000 - £290,996**

Located in a delightful village in the picturesque Vallée d'Aspe, this gorgeous village house will charm you with its stylish décor, magical garden and artist's studio!

Ideal for a family home or a holiday home, the property has three bedrooms, with the possibility of creating a fourth by using the huge first-floor sitting room as a master bedroom. It might also be possible to create more bedrooms in the loft (permission required for additional windows).

Should you want to rent out the house as a gîte, your guests will love the property's proximity to ski resorts (30 – 60 minutes), along with limitless mountain-based activities. Alternatively, you could offer B&B accommodation to pilgrims following the Chemin-de-St-Jacques-de-Compostelle pilgrim route, which passes right in front of the house!

With shops, bars and restaurants just a short stroll away, you will absolutely adore this superb house with its secret garden, artist's studio and fabulous views of the mountains...

...

This adorable village house is currently a wonderful family home. It is also the perfect size to use as a holiday home or to rent out as a gîte to holidaymakers. Located in the centre of a pretty village in the Vallée d'Aspe, the gorgeous property has a small artist's studio, a magnificent garden and lovely views of the mountains!

Ready to move into straight away, the house is absolutely ideal for anyone who works from home - and if you have children, you have a good choice of schools both locally and in Oloron-Ste-Marie.

The front of the house has a parking area for two cars and a small garage. Adjacent to the parking area is a paved area, which is used as a small sunny terrace.

The front door of the house opens into an entrance hall with a staircase up to the first floor and a door into the garage. From the hall, a door opens into a spacious open-plan kitchen, which overlooks the garden. Behind the kitchen is a utility room with a deep sink, storage shelves/pantry, a door to the garage and a door out to the terrace and garden.

Adjoining the kitchen is a superb sitting room/dining room with exposed stone walls and French doors out to the dining terrace and garden.

Upstairs, there is a wonderful south-facing second sitting room, which could be used as an office or a fourth bedroom. There would also be enough space for an en suite shower room, if desired. Also on this floor are three more bedrooms, a bathroom and a separate WC.

From the sitting room, stairs lead up to unconverted loft space, which could transformed into more bedrooms with shower rooms (permission required for additional windows), or used as a gym, a games room, a home cinema...

Outside, a paved terrace leads into a glorious garden planted with trees, shrubs and flowers. Next to the terrace is a small artist's studio, which could also be used as an office.

The terrace has enough space to add a summer kitchen/barbecue area to the outdoor dining area, which is the perfect spot for sunny breakfasts, long lazy lunches and romantic moonlit suppers, whilst enjoying beautiful views of the mountains!

This charming village house is located in a pretty village in the Vallée d’Aspe. Your daily baguette is just a short stroll away, along with bars and bistros... The riverside town of Oloron-Ste-Marie is 30 minutes away, where you will find a theatre, a cinema, a hospital, schools and an excellent choice of supermarkets and hypermarkets.

There are several ski resorts 30 – 60 minutes away, as well as numerous leisure and sporting activities on your doorstep, including fishing, hiking, trail-running, mountain biking, mountain climbing, paragliding... If you prefer to surf and swim, the beautiful beach resorts on the Atlantic coast are under two hours away...

THE LOCAL AREA

This gorgeous village house in the Vallée d'Aspe is about 30 minutes away from the Medieval market town of Oloron-Ste-Marie and 60 minutes from the historic city of Pau. Both Pau and Oloron-Ste-Marie are accessible by train and bus from the local village. The closest ski resorts are about 30 - 60 minutes away at Somport, La-Pierre-St-Martin, Issarbe and Candanchú/Astún (Spain); Biarritz and other Atlantic beach resorts are under two hours away.

The Béarn is extremely popular with tourists all year round. Once the skiing season is over, people visit the area to walk and cycle in the mountains, go white-water rafting on the fast-flowing Gaves (rivers) or enjoy paragliding high above the valleys. You can also explore the nearby Jurançon vineyards and sample local delicacies at the many farmers' markets throughout the region.

Many of the villages in the Vallée d'Aspe are located on the St-Jacques-de-Compostelle pilgrim route (the Voie d’Arles), which runs due south from Oloron-Ste-Marie up to the Col du Somport where the Chemin crosses into Spain - and many of the pilgrims hope to find peaceful accommodation en route, should you be interested in offering them Bed & Breakfast in your lovely home!
