Beautiful sunny Alpine views, small fenced garden, and the all-important private attached garage to simplify life in the mountains during winters ! There is a lovely little fenced garden terrace that welcomes family & guests alike outside the front door.
Step inside the spacious entrance where there is a full size coat closet and separate WC. There is also a direct access into the single car garage. The small sunny dining room has direct access to a south facing balcony as well as an east facing terrace for dining alfresco on warm summer evenings. The fully equipped kitchen is bright & spacious with a south facing window. The area flows into a cosy living room with a beautiful stone would burner stove. The glass front wood burning stove lets you enjoy the dancing flames and crackling fire while warming the entire first two floors of the house.
Upstairs there are 3 double bedrooms with ceiling to floor built-in closets & sliding doors. The 3 bedrooms share a nice size bathroom with shower, sink and loo.
Downstairs is a lovely large guest suite or master bedroom with an ensuite bathroom with a shower & sink. The suite has two glass doors that open onto a little south facing terrace & garden, drenched in sunshine and excellent mountain views. There is also a small utility room with washing machine and dryer plus a WC and wash basin.
There is a very large storage room with a workshop area and wine cave directly below the garage. There is an ingenious trap in the garage floor that allows the wood delivery to be stocked directly downstairs in the ‘cave’, avoiding delivery through the main house.
The garden & terraces are approximately 100 m². The upkeep of the garden area is minimal.
The main living level of the house has under floor heating throughout plus electric radiators upstairs and downstairs although there is rarely a need to use them what with the underfloor heating and wood burning stove. Their house was constructed in 2008 and has the advantage of still being under the constructors guarantee, which in France is called “decennale”. There is plenty of public guest parking next to the house and a free ski bus that runs during the winter season from 8h15 -18h15.
The ski bus takes you to & from the Olympia gondola. The nearest bus stop is only 150m. The property is part of a small intimate neighbourhood in a cul de sac. It is very much a family neighbourhood with the sound of children laughing and playing together. At Christmas time the families get together and organise their own Santa Claus visit. The small tight knit neighbourhood is very welcoming with a real sense of family & community.
The majority of home owners are ex pats that live out here year around and have integrated themselves into the laid back life style of the Savoie. The children grow up completely bilingual. This is the perfect place for young couples who have or want to start a family. Brides les Bains is one of the most popular spa and health resorts in France and is linked directly to the ski resort of Meribel and the 3 Valleys via a cable car that runs during the summer and winter season. There is also a free summer shuttle service as well from Brides-les-Bains to Meribel (for mountain biking, walking, visits …)
Brides is a bustling year round resort with all of the amenities and services you could need plus a casino, night club, cinema (showing original version films), variety of dietary and gourmet restaurants & bars and a weekly market. During the summers you can enjoy the park that runs along the river where during peak season there are outdoor concerts & cafes. There are 2 golf courses nearby, one in Meribel and another in Courchevel 1850.
During the winters you can take advantage of the worlds largest ski resort with 600 kms of ski pistes and guaranteed snow. The 20 minute cable car ride that runs from the centre of Brides carries you to Meribel, smack dab in the centre of the 3 Valleys where you can then explore Courchevel & Val Thorens or one of the other 6 ski resorts that are part of the 3 Valleys! Brides les Bains is a wonderful place to invest in property with affordable prices. It has a year round touristic rentability and friendly atmosphere.
Brides les Bains is only 8 km to Moutiers where you can join the autoroute. There is a train & bus station with TGV service. There are 3 international airports (Lyon 170 kms, Grenoble 159 kms & Geneva 176 kms) plus the smaller Chambéry-Voglans airport (93 km)
Three Valleys Ski Area
A beautiful place all year with highly defined seasons and quiet and tranquil out of the ski season when the crowds have gone home, and then suddenly once again each winter the mountains of the Three Valleys come alive with people enjoying this vast ski area..... the largest linked skiing in the world.
The Three Valleys ski domain provides more than 600km of runs and probably the same again off-piste. In fact it should now be called the Four Valleys with the link into Orelle (Maurienne Valley) which can be accessed by ski from Val Thorens. This has also opened up some extraordinary off-piste runs. The Three Valleys provides direct links between the ski resorts of St Martin de Belleville, Les Menuires, Val Thorens, Méribel, Mottaret, La Tania, Brides les Bains and the four Courchevel resorts, la Praz, 1550, 1650 and the world famous 1850 – and now Orelle, in the fourth valley - all under one ski pass offering on-piste skiing from 1300m all the way up to 3200m. As these figures show the Three Valleys ski area offers huge altitude differences favouring long run skiing.
It has an ultra efficient, state of the art ski lift system, quality piste preparation and a dense artificial snow making system (1920 snow cannons) complementing the excellent natural snow cover. However, if you are not a fan of downhill skiing or like some variety during your stay then you can also roam the domain at your leisure on foot, hiking along the marked trails, or using the pedestrian ski lift passes. Many trails have been created especially to enjoy the increasingly popular snowshoeing sport and to discover the valleys from a new perspective: flora, wildlife, monuments, and spectacular scenery. There are also many cross-country skiing tracks that are prepared and maintained each day. These allow you to take in the breathtaking scenery and provide the opportunity to appreciate the beauty of the mountains away from the pistes.
An interesting and wonderful area all year round, there is much more here than the snow sports.
Brides-Les-Bains, Meribel Ski Resort
Brides les Bains is a quiet spa town in the pretty valley below Méribel, and is connected to the ski area of the Three Valleys by gondola. The gondola up to Mèribel takes a while and accesses a couple of villages, les Allues and le Raffort, part way up which allows for some decent off-piste runs when conditions permit. It is possible to ski all the way down to Brides when the snow is exceptional but regrettably that is rare, so most people hop back on the gondola either in Meribel or enjoy the off-piste runs down to either of the two villages and then continue by lift from there.
Before it became a ski base it was, and still is, a thermal spa town and as such has much to offer. As well as the spa centre, there are several good value hotels and chalets, shops, restaurants, a casino and a couple of bars – although evenings are generally quiet because it only has a few bars to choses form it does mean that you all end up getting know each other quite quickly so in fact has quite a social feel.
Indeed it has a big following of snow lovers who value a cheaper resort, a proper town feel and easy access as the snow rarely blocks the roads at this height. I like Brides-les-Bains, it quirky, different and very French and makes an unusual and interesting ski base from which you can enjoy the enormous state of the art ski area of the Three Valleys at a much better price. It is also a great summer location for all mountain enthusiasts and offers a lot of different activities during the winter as well.
Because of this it can make a slightly more interesting base for non-skiers who can make use of the thermal spa treatments which can be booked as week courses or as individual treatments – relax and enjoy!
