Property Description
LOCATION The house is situated in Taninges which is the principle town in the Giffre Valley. Taninges offers a range of services as well as several restaurants, shops and bars. The old sector is particularly picturesque, especially along the River Foron which flows through the middle of Taninges before joining the Giffre. SKI STATIONS 1.) The Grand Massif (10 minute drive): The closest access point is from the cable car in the village of Morillon. The ski area consists of Les Carroz, Samoëns, Morillon, Sixt Fer à Cheval and Flaine and has 265km of pistes. With a top station of 2500 metres, mostly north-facing slopes, and close proximity to Mt Blanc and the microclimate it generates, this is one of the most snow-sure ski resorts in the Haute-Savoie. 2.) Les Portes du Soleil (15 minute drive): The closest access point is from just outside Les Gets. Les Portes du Soleil is one of the largest linked ski areas in the world with 12 stations that lie between France and Switzerland including Châtel, Avoriaz, Les Gets, Morzine, Champéry, Morgins, Torgon, Les Crosets and Champoussin in the Val-d’Illiez. 3.) Praz de Lys–Sommand (20 minute drive): The small ski station at Praz de Lys is behind Taninges, on the way to Les Gets, and provides a delightful alternative to its more famous neighbours. The Giffre and Morzine valleys are just as popular in the summer with numerous activities and festivals all season long. Check out the Taninges, Samoens, Morillon, Morzine and Les Gets tourist sites for more information.Praz de Lys/Sommand Ski Area
Praz de Lys/Sommand is a quiet ski resort amidst spectacular scenery with 24 chairlifts and 60kms of slopes up to 2000m. It has a relaxed atmosphere, which is perfect not only for families and beginners but also for those who are looking for untracked, powdery slopes with loads of room to let their hair down.
On a white out day there are some lovely little restaurants serving hearty tartiflettes with open fireplaces serving a toasty vin chaud. In the summer, this is one of the top spots for walks and hikes and also the best paragliding and hangliding in the area.
Just 40 minutes down the road are the Grand Massif and Portes du Soleil ski regions and in the other direction, Geneva.
