Property DescriptionA perfect opportunity has arisen to acquire this wonderful, traditionally built and spacious chalet located in the hamlet of La Thuile which is just 4km from the family orientated ski resort of Sainte Foy. From here, you can also access by car the world famous resorts of Val d’Isère, Tignes, Les Arcs, La Plagne and La Rosière where you can ski over the border into Italy. For summer, experience the famous Tour de France cycle race which passes by on the road below this year or take in the amazing terrain for walking, hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing and water sports on the nearby lake in Tignes or canoeing and rafting on the Isere river. This beautiful chalet set at 1200m sits proudly above the traditional hamlet of La Thuile and has truly spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. A private 200m driveway opens onto a level car park large enough to accommodate 10 cars. The property is set over 3 floors with surrounding garden space and the mountain to the rear. Ski access to the car park is available ‘off-piste’ when the snow conditions permit. On the ground floor, an entrance hallway leads into a large boot room with wood benches, coat hooks, ski boot dryers, fitted wardrobes, two storerooms, a boiler room and a very useful laundry room with sink unit. There is also a large ski equipment room comprising work benches and ski racks. A hallway leads into bedroom 1 comprising wood floor, en-suite shower room with towel heaters and wall radiator. Bedroom 2 is generously proportioned with a disabled wide access doorway and a very spacious ‘wet room’ style shower with hand basin, WC, towel heater and wall radiators. A gravel pathway via a gate leads to the additional ground floor accommodation comprising bedrooms 3, 4 and 5 which are beautifully appointed with en-suite shower rooms, wood flooring, hand basins, WCs, towel heaters, wall radiators and double patio doors which lead out directly onto the large garden. All 3 bedrooms have connecting doors and this area can be converted into a separate apartment or holiday let with potential to add a kitchen/dining area if so desired. The first floor is accessed from the car park by a short stairway into the entrance hallway leading into the very spacious living room with a stone tiled floor, a bar area and a beautiful open log burning fireplace which truly make this the focal point of the Chalet. A large window to the front of the property and double patio doors leading onto the balcony afford amazing views of the surrounding mountains. A quirky spiral staircase from the lounge takes you to a mezzanine level with traditional wood beamed ceiling which is carpeted and currently used as a ‘chill-out’ TV room. From the main hallway you will find the very spacious dining room which is large enough for 20 people to dine in comfort. A double patio door leads onto the large balcony which runs across the entire side of the chalet….perfect for that summer time breakfast and evening time dinner experience. A very well configured kitchen with quality equipment can be converted into a family space if desired with room enough for a central breakfast table and a doorway leading onto the balcony. There is a useful computer room and a bathroom with WC and hand basin located on this level. A stairway leads to the second floor landing and you will find a useful office with single aspect window. Bedroom 6 has a gorgeous wood beamed ceiling, wood floor, en-suite shower with WC, hand basin, towel heater and wall radiator. Bedroom 7 is the large family room with double aspect windows, wood floor, wood beamed ceiling, separate bathroom with bath, shower, WC and hand basin. Bedroom 8 is quite unique in the layout with a split room area to accommodate 4 people a separate bath/shower room with WC, hand basin and towel heaters. The outside area of the chalet needs to be seen to be believed with the surrounding mountains looking over the property on all sides. A lawned and level garden which is quite rare in the mountains leads to one side of the chalet where you will find the cute and traditionally hand crafted log cabin comprising a sauna room, WC and shower. Here you will also find the outdoor Jacuzzi big enough for 7 people to enjoy the spectacular landscape and relax after an exciting, fun filled day on the ski slopes. A walkway through the garden leads onto the balcony and to the additional terraced garden at the rear of the chalet with a traditional French boules playing area. To the rear of the property is open pastureland with cows grazing in summer and the ability to ski down ‘off piste’ from the Sainte Foy ski resort in winter to the car park when the conditions permit. ------ Information about risks to which this property is exposed is available on the Géorisques website : https://www.georisques.gouv.fr
Sainte Foy en Tarentaise Ski Area
Forget large busy resorts, 2009/2010 is all about “Boutique Skiing” and nowhere does it better that Sainte Foy de Tarentaise. If you LOVE off piste skiing, have a young family and enjoy a chalet atmosphere well then you will REALLY LOVE Sainte Foy. It’s one of the prettiest modern ski villages in France.
Nestled among the trees at 1550 metres in a sunny bowl above the Savoie Isere valley, it’s just a short car ride away from a host of better known resorts such as Val D’Isere, Tignes and la Rosiere. It has stunning views of Mont Blanc (4,807m).
Small family ski resorts are back in fashion and Sainte Foy has everything you will need. The right skiing mix for experts and beginners, good facilities for children, fine food and a high standard of accommodation. For small children Sainte Foy is ideal, it’s friendly, has a kids club, a ski school and the nursery slopes are conveniently close to the middle of the village.
Despite what you may have encountered in other small resorts, lifts are in good condition and well maintained. Sainte Foy opened its first 3 lifts in 1990 and has been adding to them ever since. The most recent was a 6 man chairlift in 2006/7. The village has plans to build more lifts in the future to further extend the 30km of pisted ski area. Currently there are 4 chairlifts and 2 tows. The Morion and Crystal Dark blacks that run down from the Col de l'Aiguille summit at 2620 metres are suitably challenging, whilst a full top to bottom descent is possible by taking a succession of reds such as L'Aiguille down to Creux de Formeian finishing up with La Savonette.
The snow cannons and its north west facing position keep Sainte Foy snow-covered from December to April. Off piste addicts have raved about Sainte Foy for years, you’ll find powder here days after it has been skied out in nearby Espace Killy. It has long been the reserve of off piste guides and you may want to make use of their expert knowledge, especially when facing serious steeps!
Boarders have a terrain park all to themselves by Cret Serru (2040m). Beyond this St Foy is a natural playground for snowboarders with countless drops and hits. The top half of the mountain is a treeless powder bowl, whilst the lower trails are cut through the forest creating endless opportunities to enjoy.
Anyway it’s not all about skiing and boarding .......or is it? Your first port of call, once the lifts have closed, should be the Pitchouli Bar. Renowned for its early evening live bands and relaxed atmosphere it’s THE place to wind down before dinner. There are a variety of different restaurants in and around the village, menus range from tapas to local Savoyard fayre.
Don’t expect huge nightlife in Sainte Foy, that’s not what it’s about, however if a pleasant meal, a few glasses of wine, in front of an open fire then falling into bed appeals to you, you really will LOVE it here.
The Eurostar offers a regular service to Bourg Saint Maurice which lies at the foot of Sainte Foy de Tarentaise, from here a taxi transfer can be arranged. Local airports are Lyon (135kms), Geneva (130kms). Chambery (75kms) and Grenoble (115kms).
