Combining modern convenience and traditional style, the interior of this chalet is done either in traditional wooden panelling or painted according to your preference, with stonework above the magnificent open fireplace in the living area and exposed beams in the ceilings. Similarly, you can choose between oak floorboards or imitation stone flagged flooring in all the main areas, with under-floor heating throughout. The kitchen comes fully equipped, including an oven, microwave, 4-ring induction hob, extractor fan, dishwasher, American-style fridge-freezer, double sink, and either stone or granite work surfaces. The large wooden terrace wraps around 2 sides of the chalet and has a tap and external electric socket. It and the garden boast mountain views up the Meribel valley and plentiful sunlight throughout the day that spills in through the French windows on three sides to light the open-plan living area and kitchen. The garden is hedged for privacy and contains a shed. The property includes a private ski locker and a double garage in an underground car park.
This chalet is in an excellent location in Les Allues, just a 500m level walk from the nearest free resort bus stop and the centre of the village with all its amenities, and the same easy distance to the station for the ‘Olympe’ Telecabine that runs from Brides-Les-Bains to the centre of the Meribel resort. Being slightly outside the centre gives the property more peace and privacy without sacrificing convenience. Les Allues is a typically Savoyard village that buzzes all year round, contrary to some of the higher resorts in the Three Valleys. People come here for its easy access to the renowned Meribel and Three Valley ski opportunities and also for the mountain and road biking and walking opportunities in summer. There are restaurants and local bars to suit all tastes, ski hire shops and a small grocery store.
Transport links to the resort and within Meribel itself are reliable and operate during both the summer and winter seasons. A free resort bus service runs every 15-25 minutes during peak times and hourly off peak: the first bus to resort is at 7.30am, while the last bus back to the village is at 0.30am. This is a great option if you would prefer to leave the car behind at peak times and get straight onto the slopes without the worry (or cost) of parking in central Meribel. The nearest SNCF train station is in Moutiers, just 12km away, which is also the destination for the Eurostar Snow Train that runs from London during the winter season. Nearby airports include Chambery, Lyons, Geneva and Grenoble. There is also an altiport situated above the Meribel resort which can accommodate small aircraft and helicopters. *Conditions Apply (of course) but please contact us to discuss the details about the reduced purchase fees and possibility of a TVA refund.
Three Valleys Ski Area
A beautiful place all year with highly defined seasons and quiet and tranquil out of the ski season when the crowds have gone home, and then suddenly once again each winter the mountains of the Three Valleys come alive with people enjoying this vast ski area..... the largest linked skiing in the world.
The Three Valleys ski domain provides more than 600km of runs and probably the same again off-piste. In fact it should now be called the Four Valleys with the link into Orelle (Maurienne Valley) which can be accessed by ski from Val Thorens. This has also opened up some extraordinary off-piste runs. The Three Valleys provides direct links between the ski resorts of St Martin de Belleville, Les Menuires, Val Thorens, Méribel, Mottaret, La Tania, Brides les Bains and the four Courchevel resorts, la Praz, 1550, 1650 and the world famous 1850 – and now Orelle, in the fourth valley - all under one ski pass offering on-piste skiing from 1300m all the way up to 3200m. As these figures show the Three Valleys ski area offers huge altitude differences favouring long run skiing.
It has an ultra efficient, state of the art ski lift system, quality piste preparation and a dense artificial snow making system (1920 snow cannons) complementing the excellent natural snow cover. However, if you are not a fan of downhill skiing or like some variety during your stay then you can also roam the domain at your leisure on foot, hiking along the marked trails, or using the pedestrian ski lift passes. Many trails have been created especially to enjoy the increasingly popular snowshoeing sport and to discover the valleys from a new perspective: flora, wildlife, monuments, and spectacular scenery. There are also many cross-country skiing tracks that are prepared and maintained each day. These allow you to take in the breathtaking scenery and provide the opportunity to appreciate the beauty of the mountains away from the pistes.
An interesting and wonderful area all year round, there is much more here than the snow sports.
Meribel Ski Resort
Méribel is one of most popular resorts in Europe for English-speaking skiers along with Courchevel and Val d’Isere.
Meribel is the central valley of the largest ski domain in the world, Les 3 Vallées.
With 600 km of groomed pistes, 85% of which are above 1800 metres, 25 accessible summits, 174 modern lifts and over 2090 snow cannons covering 43% of the ski area the statistics are impressive as is the skiing. However Méribel is much more than the 5 month winter ski season and an extended stay in summer or during the colours of autumn are needed to appreciate this.
The initial development of the ski resort in the late 1930’s was a British and French partnership and this acceptance of English speakers continues to this day. Méribel is now a much more diverse international community with a large percentage of residents or visitors speaking English as their main or second language.
The main village of Méribel is built on the eastern side of the valley between 1450 and 1700 metres and because of this it is surrounded by forests or grass & timbered slopes. The strict architectural codes of alpine sloping rooflines, timber and stone cladding compliments this setting and makes it one of, if not the most, attractive of all the large high altitude French ski resorts.
The other major “resort villages” are Méribel Mottaret (1750 m), Méribel Village (1400 m), Les Allues (1100m) and the spa town of Brides-Les-Bains (600 m) at the very bottom of the valley. There are many smaller villages or hamlets so the range of property covers all tastes from barn conversions & village houses through to ski apartments and super luxury ski in ski out chalets with private swimming pools. As well as the normal range of hotels, bars, restaurants & shops Méribel boasts a range of facilities and activities.
The Méribel Olympic Centre is home to a full size ice rink, indoor climbing wall, 25 metres indoor heated pool and water slide, conference centre, gymnasium and wellness centre of spa, steamrooms, etc.
There is a spectacular 18 hole Golf Course at 1700 metres and a huge range of other outdoor activities such as tennis, hiking, mountain biking, road cycling, paragliding, fishing, etc which are enjoyed in the warmer months. Méribel property is generally more expensive than other French resorts but not yet at the dizzy heights of Courchevel 1850 with perhaps the exception of a few of the most prestigious pockets.
As Méribel continues to become ever more popular with the big spenders of the world the strong capital growth experienced over many many years is likely to continue.
