Delightfully dressed in local "vieux bois" (seasoned old wood), this chalet of around 160sqm, set over 4 levels, is in the prime location within the village of Béranger, just a few minutes' drive from the ski lifts. Unassuming from the front approach, it is actually an imposing structure when seen from below, which sleeps (currently) up to 8 people, with a possibility to increase this capacity.

Entering from the front of the chalet, it almost appears to be a bungalow, tastefully clad in attractive old wood to complement the beautiful local stone. The ground floor houses the farmhouse-feeling kitchen, light-drenched dining area and welcoming living room with fireplace. The first balcony is accessed from next to the dining table, giving incredible views out over the local mountains. Given the relief of the terrain here, there is no possibility of these views being interrupted. There is also a shower room and WC on this floor, along with storage space for shoes, coats etc.

The top mezzanine floor currently houses a bedroom and another sleeping area with a sofa bed. These areas could be retained for sleeping quarters or conceivably become an office/study/snug etc.

The lower ground floor is where you will find 2 further large bedrooms, through one of which is the second balcony access. Each of these bedrooms has a decent-sized walk-in wardrobe, which could certainly be converted into a shower room, if necessary. There is also the large main family bathroom on this level.

There is one further level of this property, which is the basement level. Currently, this houses the oil tank and associated boiler for the central heating, the hot water tanks, the laundry machines, a wine cellar, a second fridge and chest freezer as well as lots of space for storage. This area could certainly become either more sleeping areas for the chalet, or indeed a self-contained apartment to provide a level of income for the owners, as it has a separate entrance to the rest of the property.

The village can be accessed on skis via an off-piste itinerary (in fact a few different ones) from the top of the Meribel, when the snow is sufficient. In the summer, the village provides a fantastic base for walking, mountain biking and all the other activities associated with living in the mountains. There is solid rental potential here as well so you have the option to rent out when you’re not using it yourself. The nearest ski resort of Saint Martin de Belleville has some of the best runs in the Three Valleys, including the run called Jerusalem, which is a favourite of many skiers. The Belleville valley is a gem, with sensible prices, good service, fantastic scenery and great skiing. It’s also home to Les Menuires at 1800m and Val Thorens at 2300m which is the highest resort in Europe - indeed the Belleville Valley consists of 300km of pistes, so actually half of the ski area of the 3 Valleys. Just over the mountain are the glitzy resorts of Meribel and Courchevel. The Three Valleys link together to form the largest ski area in the world with over 600kms of on-piste skiing and a great variety of off piste skiing itineraries.

A beautiful place all year with highly defined seasons and quiet and tranquil out of the ski season when the crowds have gone home, and then suddenly once again each winter the mountains of the Three Valleys come alive with people enjoying this vast ski area..... the largest linked skiing in the world.


The Three Valleys ski domain provides more than 600km of runs and probably the same again off-piste. In fact it should now be called the Four Valleys with the link into Orelle (Maurienne Valley) which can be accessed by ski from Val Thorens. This has also opened up some extraordinary off-piste runs. The Three Valleys provides direct links between the ski resorts of St Martin de Belleville, Les Menuires, Val Thorens, Méribel, Mottaret, La Tania, Brides les Bains and the four Courchevel resorts, la Praz, 1550, 1650 and the world famous 1850 – and now Orelle, in the fourth valley - all under one ski pass offering on-piste skiing from 1300m all the way up to 3200m. As these figures show the Three Valleys ski area offers huge altitude differences favouring long run skiing.


It has an ultra efficient, state of the art ski lift system, quality piste preparation and a dense artificial snow making system (1920 snow cannons) complementing the excellent natural snow cover. However, if you are not a fan of downhill skiing or like some variety during your stay then you can also roam the domain at your leisure on foot, hiking along the marked trails, or using the pedestrian ski lift passes. Many trails have been created especially to enjoy the increasingly popular snowshoeing sport and to discover the valleys from a new perspective: flora, wildlife, monuments, and spectacular scenery.There are also many cross-country skiing tracks that are prepared and maintained each day. These allow you to take in the breathtaking scenery and provide the opportunity to appreciate the beauty of the mountains away from the pistes.


An interesting and wonderful area all year round, there is much more here than the snow sports.

Saint Martin de Belleville Ski Resort

Based at 1400m and directly linked into the vast Three Valleys network by an 8 person gondola, St Martin de Belleville offers unlimited, world-class skiing.

 

The village is picture perfect, unspoiled and authentic making St Martin de Belleville the perfect ski resort if you are looking for a taste of authentic France combined with state of the art skiing. Clusters of traditional chalets and original Savoyard farmhouses are dominated by the close mountains with chamois and wild boars roaming free in the surrounding forests. St Martin was voted a “Top Ten Picture Postcard resort” for its pretty, traditional architecture and stunning Alpine scenery, it’s interesting to note that the commune have had the foresight to bury all the electric and phone cabling which means that not only does it have a clean uncluttered look, but you are unlikely to lose power when the snow hits!

 

As an added bonus Val Thorens, officially the highest resort in Europe is situated at the top of the valley offering great skiing from mid-November to mid-May. St Martin also has some of the best and clearest runs in the Three Valleys; with skiing for all levels back down to the village and red run Jerusalem a firm favourite with many, and the confidence inspiring off-piste powder fields have to be experienced to be believed. In the height of summer during July and August the valley is host to walkers, nature lovers and adventure seekers who arrive to enjoy the traditional and less traditional mountain activities along with the colourful mountain meadows and beauty of the contrasting vibrant green against snow capped mountains.

 

It is also a near neighbour to the Vanoise Park, a protected area of outstanding natural beauty. St Martin de Belleville has a lower key nightlife than its glitzy neighbours. Having said that, the valley boasts two Michelin starred restaurants, one being situated three minutes from the village, the other in Val Thorens. St Martin itself has several friendly bars and restaurants which retain a mountain village atmosphere with prices to match. This ski resort seems ideal for ski and mountain lovers looking for an authentic atmosphere a little apart from the crowds, and out of season it still has life and enough year round residents to stop it feeling like a ghost town.
