La Rosière is still relatively small if you compare it to its mega resort neighbours like Val d’Isere, Les Arcs, Tignes and La Plagne but has so much to offer. The resort and surrounding villages are undeniably one of the Alps best hidden gems. La Rosière has a record of having more snowfall than anywhere else in the Alps and then also more sunshine on its fantastic South facing slopes than other ski resorts. With a resort level at one of the famous few 1850’s like her more famous relations: Val d’Isere and Courcheval, La Rosiere is about as guaranteed snow as you are going to get. Another unique touch is that La Rosière links with the Italian ski area of La Thuile and the Aosta Valley creating a ski area of 160km. Attracting all levels of skiers from families and beginners to the daring off pisters and heli skiing on offer from the Italian side. Obviously Italy offers its own take on things so a quick gloopy hot chocolate with a ton of chattily or some pasta and Italian wine from the famous Lo TaTa restaurant before chasing the last lifts back to France. At the top of the resort at the famous Fort you can see out over to a magnificent Mont Blanc or back into France and the Mont Pourrie. Undeniably a killer view in winter or summer.

Summer time brings hikers and cyclists as well as more wild flowers than you can ever imagine and so many shades of green. It often gets up into the 30s in the middle of the day. You are 2.5hrs drive from all the main airports Geneva, Lyon, Grenoble and Turin (in the summer) 20mins from Bourg Saint Maurice International Train station – and also a hub for supermarkets, outdoorsy type shopping and pretty well anything you need whilst living here. College and Lycée in Bourg as well as primary schools in surrounding villages

La Rosiere Ski Resort

Perched high up the valley at 1850 metres, La Rosiere de Montvalezan is a hidden gem for many people visiting the area in the heart of the Haute-Tarentaise. Developed in the 1950s from an original farming hamlet, the ski-resort has been sympathetically created from local materials of lauze, stone and wood.

The snowfall here is superb due to its location and rivals that of any of the nearby, larger, more well-known resorts. You get the best of both worlds here in La Rosiere, whilst the south-facing resort centre basks in the sunshine, the slopes maintain their condition due to their high altitude and heavy snowfalls.

The resort offers the perfect base for a family holiday or those looking for a more peaceful chalet holiday. With 150kms of piste and La Rosiere’s link with La Thuile in Italy there are slopes and off-piste to suit every skiing ability.

Situated on the Col de Petit St Bernard, you can drive or cycle over to Italy during the summer for an authentic pizza or gelato and ski over on the same road (past the road-signs!) during the winter. Once you are at the top you will have breathtaking views across to Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn and Monte Rosa. A beautiful setting for a wide range of activities with walking and cycling high on the summer agenda and along with the usual snowsports you can meet the famous St Bernard rescue dogs, “mush” your own team of huskies on a dog-sled or have a go at snow-kiting in the winter!

The Eurostar offers a regular service to Bourg Saint Maurice, a town situated at the foot of La Rosiere, from here a taxi transfer can be arranged. Local Airports include Lyon (approx 140km ), Geneva (130km), Chambery (80km), Grenoble (120km).
