Property Description

This is a lovely family chalet for sale in the ski village of Montalbert, La Plagne. Following a fire in 2008 the chalet has been completely rebuilt and was completed in December 2015. It has been fitted out in a modern style and, of course, all fixtures and fittings are brand new. With 4 bedrooms, 6 shower rooms and a very flexible downstairs space that includes a sauna it would make a superb family home in the mountains.

The fantastic new Montalbert gondola whisks you up to Le Fornelet (1970m) in only 6 minutes and is only 300m from the chalet. Montalbert (1350m) is a pretty village with a good choice of bars and shops.

The accommodation comprises.

Basement level: a ski room/technical room, shower room with WC and sauna. There are sofas on this level and the space lends itself to flexible use.

Ground floor: an open plan living and dining area with refitted kitchen. The living area has a feature fireplace and access to the big terrace with some amazing views over the valley to the mountains beyond. There is a further shower room and WC on this level.

First floor: there are 3 bedrooms on this level, two with en suite shower rooms . There is also a separate shower room and WC.

Attic level: the fourth bedroom is found under the eaves. It is a big family room with 5 single beds and has its own large shower room with WC.

The chalet stands on ground of 1800 sq. m. which is shared with two other chalets; there is a private copropriete/co-ownership.

Montlabert (1350m) is a pretty village linked into all of La Plagne, Les Arcs, Paradiski. The new Montalbert “ telecabine” , opened in Dec 2015, has transformed access to the high altitude slopes of La Plagne. The village itself has some lovely old buildings and a good choice of shops, bars and restaurants. Just above the village is the very popular mountain restaurant, Le Forporet—a particular favourite of mine. Montalbert is an approx 10 hour drive from the main channel ports. The nearest station is in the valley town of Aime which has a direct Eurostar service in the ski season. Chambery, Geneva, Lyon and Grenoble are the main airports serving the region

Paradiski Ski Area

Paradiski is the name of the joint La Plagne, Les Arcs, ski area linked together by the Vanoise Express cable car. Opened in December 2003,the Vanoise Express is currently the world’s largest single span cable car; in fact there are two of them both capable of ferrying 200 people across the Ponthurin valley that divides the two areas. The journey and the views make for a spectacular 4-minute ride.

In total Paradiski offers a HUGE 425 km of piste. Individually, La Plagne (225 km) and Les Arcs (200km) are significant ski areas in their own right and are both made up of different villages. In La Plagne the high altitude villages are Aime 2000,Plagne Centre, Belle Plagne, Plagne Bellecote, Plagne Soleil, Plagne Villages and Plagne 1800. These are all situated between 1800m and 2100m and offer snowsure high altitude ski in ski out convenience.

Lower down the delightful villages of Montchavin, Les Coches, Montalbert and Champagny en Vanoise all offer the charm and cosy comfort of village life, with their own tree lined local slopes and easy access to the high altitude slopes of La Plagne.

In Les Arcs the high altitude villages are Arcs 1600, Arcs 1800, Arcs 2000 and, the latest development, Arcs 1950. Again these all offer a ski in ski out experience. Great cruising runs through the trees lead to the lower villages of Plan Peisey, Vallandry and Villaroger for a more traditional mountain experience.

Both La Plagne and Les Arcs offer something for everyone. Early intermediate blue and red run skiers can soon explore the area and travel around the mountain enjoying some of the good value mountain restaurants.

However with two glaciers at over 3,000m, a wealth of “between the piste” and off piste and long runs through the trees, there really is something for all levels of skier---and let’s not forget you boarders out there—both resorts offer a choice of snowparks with jumps, rails and the ,all important, music. La Plagne, Les Arcs, Paradiski—one of the world’s great ski areas.

Plagne Montalbert Ski Resort

The ski village of Plagne Montalbert (1350m) is located in the Tarentaise valley on the la Plagne side of the huge PARADISKI ski area.

The ski slopes above the village are north facing and tree lined and hence keep their snow well. In recent years there has been considerable investment in artificial snow making facilities. Access to the la Plagne ski area is via a chairlift from the village which takes you to 1600m. From this point a further chairlift takes you to Le Fornelet at 1970m. From here there is great skiing back to the village cruising through the tress or you can carry on via a further chairlift to the high altitude skiing above Aime La Plagne and Plagne Centre.

In addition there are some excellent off piste routes in the Adrets valley and a choice of black runs off the back of Le Biolley. Plagne Montalbert has retained its rustic village charm and is a great base for mixed parties and families. The slopes come down right into the village itself, there is a good selection of shops and restaurants and a few good bars.

Prices are reasonable for this part of the world without the price premium to be paid in some of the “trendier” ski villages. Very popular with British and French clients Montalbert offers a variety of accommodation from small studios and apartments to newer build, more contemporary, apartments and individual chalets. There are one or two older chalets that have either been renovated or are in need of renovation.

Just below Montalbert the village of Longefoy offers an authentic mountain village “vibe” with a further choice of older properties.
