Courchevel, located in the Tarentaise Valley in Savoie, is spread over five levels according to altitude: Saint Bon, Le Praz (1300 m), Courchevel village (1550 m), Courchevel Moriond (1650 m), Courchevel (1850 m) plus 14 little mountain hamlets nestled in the area. You are in one the world's largest and one of the most prestigious ski areas with 600 km of ski slopes and 180 ski lifts. 13% are green trails, 39% blue, 38% red and 10% black runs.
The ski slopes of the 3 Valleys lie between 1300 m and 3230 m above sea level and 85% of the ski area is above 1800m. There are 25 mountain peaks accessible by the ski lift infrastructure including 10 peaks over 2500m and 4 equipped glaciers. There is guaranteed snow throughout the 3 Valleys. We can count on the creation of artificial snow from the 2,100 snow cannons that equip 50% of the skiing area. 85 % of the slopes are above 1800 m, which allows the 3 Valleys optimal snow conditions from early December to late April.
Courchevel 1850 has a nine hole golf course and in the near future there will be a beautiful aquatic center (equipped with wave surfing) located off the main road between Courchevel village and Moriond which should be opened for winter 2015/2016. The Courchevel area is famous for luxury with 7 Michelin-starred restaurants, 32 hotel spas and stunning chalets and of course its incomparable atmosphere. Courchevel 1850 also has its own small craft airport.
All lovers of winter sports will find something to please them: the beautiful tracks of cross country skiing, the 2 km sledge run, the beautiful ice skating rink, the Olympic ski jump in Courchevel le Praz ... many sensations and discoveries to be had. This is the perfect place to invest if you are interested in ski properties!
Three Valleys Ski Area
A beautiful place all year with highly defined seasons and quiet and tranquil out of the ski season when the crowds have gone home, and then suddenly once again each winter the mountains of the Three Valleys come alive with people enjoying this vast ski area..... the largest linked skiing in the world.
The Three Valleys ski domain provides more than 600km of runs and probably the same again off-piste. In fact it should now be called the Four Valleys with the link into Orelle (Maurienne Valley) which can be accessed by ski from Val Thorens. This has also opened up some extraordinary off-piste runs. The Three Valleys provides direct links between the ski resorts of St Martin de Belleville, Les Menuires, Val Thorens, Méribel, Mottaret, La Tania, Brides les Bains and the four Courchevel resorts, la Praz, 1550, 1650 and the world famous 1850 – and now Orelle, in the fourth valley - all under one ski pass offering on-piste skiing from 1300m all the way up to 3200m. As these figures show the Three Valleys ski area offers huge altitude differences favouring long run skiing.
It has an ultra efficient, state of the art ski lift system, quality piste preparation and a dense artificial snow making system (1920 snow cannons) complementing the excellent natural snow cover. However, if you are not a fan of downhill skiing or like some variety during your stay then you can also roam the domain at your leisure on foot, hiking along the marked trails, or using the pedestrian ski lift passes. Many trails have been created especially to enjoy the increasingly popular snowshoeing sport and to discover the valleys from a new perspective: flora, wildlife, monuments, and spectacular scenery.There are also many cross-country skiing tracks that are prepared and maintained each day. These allow you to take in the breathtaking scenery and provide the opportunity to appreciate the beauty of the mountains away from the pistes.
An interesting and wonderful area all year round, there is much more here than the snow sports.
Courchevel 1650 Ski Resort
Courchevel 1650 is situated on a sunny plateau above the Vallée des Avals and is a really great all-round resort that has worked hard to come out of the shadow of Courchevel 1850.
It offers visitors a great ski base to enjoy, what some consider to be, the best skiing for the valley. On the edge of the vast Three Valleys ski area the slopes of 1650 are quieter than most with wide open pistes making skiers feel that they are in a secluded resort rather than being part of a vast 600km system and the largest linked ski area in the world.
1650 has interesting scenery, vast views and some stunning powder fields leading down to its sunny centre and is an ideal resort for all levels of skier. I often head over to Chapelets for some quiet uninterrupted turns before heading into 1650 for lunch. The skiing of Courchevel 1650 is excellent for beginners and intermediates who do not have to look further than the local slopes to get the most of their ski experience. All the final runs into the centre are blues or greens and there are no surprises.
Catch the next lifts of Chapelets or signal and access some excellent red runs. Cut off the piste slightly to enjoy some great off-piste without venturing to far astray. Or for those who like to earn their dinner then enjoy the challenge of making it over to the fourth valley and back in time for a well deserved après-ski aperitif – it’s not that easy!

If you are not skiing, the 1650 has some great terraces to relax on with a book and a glass or 4, there are some decent shops or whizz up to 1850 on the free navette to browse alongside the rich and famous in the branded shops like Gucci and Lacroix. The restaurants and bars in 1650 are really good, not fine dining but good European and local fare well done. The prices are reasonable by comparison to 1850 and the bars are lively and well populated by locals as well as tourists. Whilst this is an excellent family resort it also knows how to party!
