Beautiful Village House Built in Stone/Unique Vaulted Interior/Fantastic Mountain Views/Venosc Village/Les Deux Alpes
- In ski resort
This 400-year-old stone house is the only one of its kind. The exact history is not known regarding the initial construction however it must have been someone fairly important in the area. In each of the main rooms over three levels there are vaulted ceilings. Normally vaults would only be a feature on the ground floor or basement levels. The previous owner was a local metal worker who recreated the iron works for the external window openings in the original style. He also brought in a team of tradesmen from Portugal specialising in vaulted ceilings to refurbish the internal walls and vaults.
The property comprises on the ground floor level a bright spacious Kitchen with vaulted ceiling and wood burning insert. A trap door leads to the first of the underground cellars. From the kitchen we enter another spacious room with vaulted ceiling currently being used as a Library, which has an outside door. From here we enter the living room where we find again the fantastic vaulted features. The wood-burning insert has also been incorporated into the design of the vaults with detailed surround features. An antique wooden display cabinet has also been built into the wall. From the living room there is a trap door to the second underground cellar.
Moving to the first floor we find the three bedrooms, a shower room with toilet and another bathroom with bath and shower. The largest of the bedrooms again has a unique vaulted design. From the window there is a view over the mountains. The second bedroom is a completely different style with exposed wooden beams and wooden floor and opens on to a balcony with fantastic views over the valley and mountains. The third room is again a very different style incorporating stonework and wood. There is also a small wood burner and again a large window with views over the mountains.
Finally there is a large attic, which could be developed to form another living space. There is an Aeroval heat circulation system installed here which circulates warm air from the wood-burners in the winter and cool air in the summer. A large section of the roof to the front of the house has been completely replaced after blowing off in a storm.
Venosc village is situated on the edge of the Ecrins National Park, a jewel in the crown of Isère for hikers and climbers. The village is 12 km from Bourg d'Oisans, the Mecca for cycling and its links to Tour de France and 12 km from the reputed mountaineering village of St Christophe en Oisans. There is a Telecabine connecting directly from the village to the resort of Les Deux Alpes. It functions whenever the main resort is open, in winter for skiers and walkers and in summer for mountain bikers and walkers. There is a technical mountain bike track which descends from Les Deux Alpes to the village of Venosc. The resort of les Deux Alpes was recently awarded the title of best European Ski Resort 2015.
Les Deux Alpes Ski Area
Les Deux-Alpes is a vibrant ski resort both in the summer and winter, famous for its glacier skiing in winter and downhill mountain biking in summer.
The town is long and narrow, sitting on a high col and has an outdoor ice rink, many shops and restaurants and a huge selection of bars and nightclubs.
The ski area is high, snow-sure and has varied slopes, including the extensive glacier with guaranteed snow quality. There is lots of good off-piste terrain with stunning views of the Ecrins National Park’s high southern peaks. It has one of the largest skiable glaciers in Europe open from late June until the end of August. It also has one of the biggest snow-parks. There are lots of summer training camps for skiers and boarders. You can ski here for nearly 8 full months of the year. It opened on the 16 June this year (2016) with 40 cm of Fresh powder on the glacier! It also opens for a week in October for the 'toussaints' holiday. The french team are training here at the moment.
We have split the area into the 4 different resorts: Deux Alpes 1350, Deux Alpes 1650, Venosc and Mont de Lans.
Regular bus services make transfers cheap and easy from both Grenoble airport and train station.
