The Chalet... This recently finished ski chalet is superbly situated at the lower part of Alpe D'Huez just a short stroll away from 2 lifts. It has been finished with exposed wood, under floor tiling, and comes with integral garage.
You enter the chalet on the ground floor beside the garage and come in to a boot changing area and entrances to 2 large bedrooms. There is a bathroom on this floor for these rooms.
Upstairs is a magnificent open plan living area taking up the whole of this floor. Floor to ceiling windows surround the main area adding to its airy space. An opening has been installed as to permit a wood burner. At one end of the room is the fully fitted kitchen separated by a breakfast counter. On 2 sides of the room are balconies offering wonderful views of the valley below and the neighbouring pistes.
On the 2nd floor are 2 further double bedrooms, each with en suite shower rooms. The master bedroom has doors opening on to a perplexing view over Bourg D'Oisans some 900m below. This wonderfully finished chalet comes with guarantees of workmanship proving the build quality. It is a exceptional building in a highly accessible part of Alpe H'Huez.
The Area... Alpe D'Huez is fast becoming recognized in the rest of Europe as big player amongst the more well known major ski stations. It is called the “Isle du soleil” in France – the Island in the Sun, because of its south facing aspect and superior altitude which often sees it popping out of the clouds below where all is murky and grey. The highest lift takes you to Pic Blanc at 3300 m, where the longest black run in europe takes you all the way back to below town, (though most of the run is a leisurely sunday afternoon slide !)
It has wonderful facilities including bowling, swimming, ice skating and a well equipped sports centre complete with squash and climbing wall . Once you arrive in Alpe D'Huez you need only to park your car as everything is accessible on foot or via the 2 cross town lifts. There is a vast variety of restaurants, bars and clubs and recently the famous Folie Douce chain of alpine fun and frolics have opened up another restaurant d'altitude on the Berger side of the mountain.
This resort is practical and snow sure but is also an amazing destination in the summer months. It has been part of the Tour de France for the last 100 years and is notorious as a mountain bike mecca thanks to the infamous “Mega Avalanche” open down hill bike race held here every year.
Alpe d'Huez Grand Rousses Ski Area
Situated only 1 hr 20 from its nearest airport, Grenoble St Geoirs, Alpe D'Huez has been appropriately named Isle de Soleil... The Island in the Sun.
This purpose built resort is home to 250 kms of piste and plays host to the Tour de France cycle race as well as the famous Mega Avalanche downhill mountain bike race. Being perched at 1800 m altitude its snow record is impeccable as its pistes rise up to a formidable 3300m on the summit of Pic Blanc.
It is certainly a very practical winter resort as its' centrally located leisure facilities and its cross town lifts make everywhere easily accessible.
